「刃物の店いがらし」は戦後まもなく創業したお店。現店主の五十嵐さんで二代目である。創業当時、東京が焼け野原だった頃、大工などの専門の職人たちの工具の製造業から始めた。「“いがらし”という看板は創業してまもなく知り合いの看板屋さんにお願いしました。個性的な文字だね、とよく言われます。他にはこんな独創的な文字はないだろうと気に入っていますよ。」と五十嵐さんは語る。地元出身で同年代の友人も近くにいるが、同じように現役で商売を続けている友人は少ないという。個性的ですてきな看板とともにいつまでも残ってほしいお店のひとつだ。
“Cutlery Shop Igarashi” was established shortly after World War II. The current owner, Mr. Igarashi, is the second generation. At the time of its founding, when Tokyo was a burnt field, the shop began as a manufacturer of tools for carpenters and other specialized craftsmen. “Shortly after the store was founded, I asked a signboard shop I knew to make a sign that read IGARASHI. I am often told that the letters are very unique. I like it because I don’t think there are many letters out there as creative as this one,” he said. Although he has friends in the same age group from his town, he has few friends who are still in business. We hope this store will remain forever with its unique and lovely signboard.
