「シミズデンキ」は、終戦直後に開業した電気店。当時はラジオを取り扱い始めた頃で、店の前にたくさんの人が集まり、ラジオ体操や相撲を実況を楽しんだそうだ。現在の店主、清水さんは二代目。松下電器主催のテレビの修理技術コンテストにおいて、台東区でトップの成績を収めたこともある。電気店らしい書体は開業した当時に看板屋にお願いして作ってからずっとこのまま。電気店としての営業は今はほとんどしていないそうだが、最近は近くの学校に協力して植物を育てる仕事をしているそう。電気屋さんとしての仕事を引退してもシミズデンキは、この書体とともにいつまでも残っていてほしい。
“Shimizu Denki” was an electronics shop that opened right after the end of World War II. That time is when the store started selling radios. Many people gathered in front of the shop to enjoy a broadcast such as radio calisthenics and live coverage of Sumo. The current owner, Mr. Shimizu, is the second generation. He once won the top prize in a TV repair skill contest sponsored by Matsushita Electric Company in Taito, Tokyo. The typeface that is typical of an electronics shop has remained the same since they asked a signboard shop to make it when they started the shop. He said that he rarely does business as an electronics shop now, but recently they have been working for a nearby school to grow plants. We hope that Shimizu Denki and its typeface will remain forever even after he retires from his business as an electrician.
